Objective
Give a strong foundation of nutrition concepts related to anatomy and physiology of the digestive
system, use of energy, protein and amino acids, fiber, calcium, phosphorus and other nutrients in the
diet with a focus on research techniques in poultry nutrition and new technologies.

Content
1. Anatomy of the digestive system of poultry; 2. Physiology of the digestive system of poultry; 3.
Concepts of energy and bioenergetics; 4. Feed energy: metabolism assays and determination of
metabolizable energy; 5. Energy requirements of birds: research methods; 6. Concepts of protein
nutrition in poultry; 7. Amino acid metabolism; 8. Digestibility of amino acids; 9. Amino acid
requirements; 10. Calcium and phosphorus digestibility and requirements; 11. Microbiota and intestinal
health of birds; 12. Research on feed additives and their application.
