Objective
Enable students to have a basic understanding and current knowledge of molecular genetics, genomics and its applications in production and animal breeding.

Content
Discussion in the form of theoretical exposition, reading and analysis of scientific papers, preparation of literature review for the purpose of oral and written presentation and laboratory activiteis involving the following main topics: 1) The genetics of morphometric traits: the genetic basis of growth and animal production. Identification of genes that affect quantitative traits. 2) Development of quantitative genetics applied to animal breeding: estimation of genetic parameters and breeding value. The selection of programs in research and practice. 3) The biology and its significance for the improvement of various species of domestic animals. 4) molecular genetics aspects. Genetic markers and breeding programs between and within populations. The manipulation of the genetic material. 5) The interrelations between genetic and other components of animal production systems.
