Objective
To allow students to develop a solid knowledge basis on envitonmental impacts of animal production systems (i.e. Greenhouse gases emission, nitrogen and carbon losses and recycling in grassland ecosystems, soil losses and ecosystem degradation), methodologies for evaluation and mitigation procedures. All topics discussed will be fundamented on the balance between productivity and sustainability of animal production systems.

Content
1. Environmental impacts of animal production systems: desmistification and uncertainties. 2. Greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions from animal production systems. 3. GHG emission evaluation methods for animal production systems. 4. Mitigation of GHG emissions in animal production systems. 5. Nutrient losses in pastoral and indoor systems of animal production. 6. Nutrient losses evaluation methods in animal production systems. 7. Nutrient recycling and reuse in animal production systems. 8. Grassland degradation processes and degraded pastures evaluation. 9. The animal as a tool for recovering degraded pastures (Allan Savory Theory). 10. Balance between productivity and sustainability.
