Objective
Give students an overview of the historical process of constitution of capitalist modernity 2. Specific: Working with students fundamental issues for understanding of modernity; understand the essential structural elements of modern societies said ; understand how historically given access to capitalist modernity in different European countries ; think how historically determined the relationship between man and nature , in the formation of the modern world; think the main types of crisis and criticism of this modern historically engendered.
Content
Part I: Nature and science among the ancients: 1) Technical and work; 2) Nature and Science. Part II: Nature and science among modern: 1) Technical and work; 2) nature and science; 3) instrumental reason; 4) progress and development. Part III: natural rights and positive law : 1) Fundamentals of liberal thought ; 2) Fundamentals of the modern state . Part IV: Criticism of modernity: 1) Fragments of a Marxist critique - fetishism, reification, alienation ; 2) Romanticism ; 3) Reflections on postmodernity and neoliberalism. Part V: Modernity in Brazil: proposals for discussion of classic authors of Brazilian society in the context of the modern world.
