Objective
Provide students with the conceptualization of epidemiology of plant diseases with emphasis on temporal
and spatial analysis for control purposes.
Content
Concepts and objectives of epidemiology; the use of computer technology in epidemiology; curves of
disease progress; systems: epidemiology as an integrated management system of diseases and pests;
spatial analysis of epidemics: host, pathogen, environment and disease; phytopathometry and
resistance; plant pathology and tropical epidemiology: tropical phytopathosystems; simulation and
prediction of disease; damage and loss; control: different IPM techniques – basic concepts; seminars.
