The Department of Crop Science aims to promote, through research, the progress of Agricultural Sciences, specifically Plant Production; convey through teaching, the knowledge that enriches or develops agriculture; form specialists in the field of Plant Science, and technicians and professionals in Agricultural Sciences; carry out social work of disseminating Agricultural Sciences through extension services..

AGRICULTURE
Agriculture sector deals with the major field crops production systems as well irrigated agriculture, crop modelling, organic agriculture to serve our broad-based clientele by providing progressive undergraduate, graduate, and extension education; conducting innovative and relevant research in the crop science; and interacting with partners in the public and private sectors.

HORTICULTURE
In the horticulture sector the faculty members possess a diverse array of expertise-both interdisciplinary(e.g., weed science and plant biothecnology), and commodity based (e.g., fruits/pomology, vegetables, viticulture, floriculture, nursery crops, postharvest, design and landscapeecology) - which they utilize in their research, teaching and outreach programs, at both the national and international levels.

SEED TECHNOLOGY
In the Seed Science sector is offered courses in Seed Science and Technology for under-graduates in Agronomy and Forestry and masters and Ph.D. degree. Conduct research on various aspects especially on: (i) standardization of seed production technologies for different crops; (ii) to carry out the fundamental and applied research in Seed Science and Technology; (iii) to evolve suitable post-harvest processing technology for upgrading quality of seeds, to evolve suitable pre-storage and mid storage seed treatments to control seed deterioration; and (iv) maintain seed viability and vigor during storage, and to evolve suitable seed storage containers for prolonging the seed viability.
