Nota 1 e 2: Introduzida da Malásia, com estipe que atinge até 20 m de altura, com diâmetro ao redor de 15-20 cm, retilínea, solitária; A semente mede 2 cm de diâmetro e devidamente seca constitui a noz-de-areca ou noz-bétel; Na Índia, Malásia e em muitos lugares do Extremo Oriente é um popular mastigatório; No Brasil, os exemplares são raros e quando encontrados são empregados como plantas ornamentais.
