Planta da família Graminea, das espécies: 1) Setaria italica, (Foxtail millet) and 2) Panicum miliaceum, (Proso millet).
Nota 1 e 2: A primeira é procedente da Europa, ereta, de folhas alternas e suas sementes secas são utilizadas para a alimentação de aves. A segunda é originária da Índia, com folhas opostas e infrutescência em forma de espiga; suas sementes são também empregadas como alimento de aves.
