PITANGA-DO-RIO-GRANDE
Arbusto da família Myrtaceae, da espécie Eugenia pitanga Kiaersk (Stenocalyx pitanga Berg.).
Nota 1 e 2: É nativa dos campos do Rio Grande do Sul, mas sua distribuição geográfica vem de São Paulo. É rasteiro de 10-50 cm de altura, simples ou sub-ramoso. Folhas opostas, elípticas e glabras. As flores são alvas. Fruto baga globulosa, vermelha para roxo-escura, com 8 arestas que o tornam uma bela frutinha, doce-acidulada, refrescante e excelente para geleias, compotas, refrescos e sorvetes.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of the fields of Rio Grande do Sul state, but its geographical distribution comes from São Paulo. It is an undergrowth shrub with 10-50 cm high, simple or sub-branched. The leaves are opposite, elliptical and glabrous. The flowers are white. It has a rounded berry fruit, red to dark purple, with 8 edges making it a small beautiful fruit, bittersweet, fresh and excellent to jams, canned sweets, juice and ice-cream.
