Árvore frutífera da família Rosaceae, da espécie Prunus amygdalus L.
Nota 1 e 2: Originária da Ásia, mas introduzida desde os tempos mais antigos na Europa, e daí para as Américas. O fruto não é comestível, mas ao amadurecer mostra o caroço, proporcionalmente grande, a amêndoa. Seu núcleo é comestível, constituindo uma das chamadas frutas de Natal.

A fruit tree of the family Rosaceae, of the species Prunus amygdalus L.
Note 1 and 2: It is from Asia, but it was introduced since the old times in Europa, and later on to the Americas. The fruit is not edible, but when it is ripen the pitch is big as an almond. Its nucleous is edible, typically known as a Christmas fruit.
