Nome vulgar e genérico de plantas herbáceas da família Plantaginaceae, com cerca de 200 espécies destacando-se a espécie Alissima plantago L.

Apresentam propriedades medicinais: vulnerária, adstringente, cura problemas de contusões, recomendada contra pequenas hemorróidas, problemas de oxiúros e distúrbios anais. Nestes últimos casos, folhas e raízes maceradas são aplicadas na forma de supositórios.
