Trepadeira da família Araliaceae, da espécie H. arborea Gars.(H. communis Gray, H. lobata Gilib., H. poearum Bertol. e H. poetica Salisb.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é oriunda da Europa, da África do Norte e da Ásia, é também encontrada os países da América do Sul, inclusive no Brasil. Ela tem raízes adventícias fixadoras, folhas verdes escuras, lisas, longo pecioladas, levemente trilobadas, às vezes manchadas e limbo até 10 cm de comprimento; nos ramos floríferos apresentam forma lânceo-ovalada ou rômbea. As flores apresentam-se em umbelas terminais ou longopedunculadas de cor verde-amarelada. Os frutos são pretos, às vezes amarelos. Extrai-se deles um glicosídeo denominado hederina, que tem efeito enérgico como vasoconstritor.

It has adventitious fixing roots, dark green smooth leaves, which are long petiole, slightly trilobate, sometimes stained and the rim can reach 10 cm of length; the flowered branches have a speared oval or rhombic shape. The flowers are arranged in green yellowish terminal or long pedunculated umbels. The fruits are black, sometimes yellow. From them, a glycoside is extracted, called hederin, which has an energetic role as vasoconstriction.
