Árvore da família Moraceae, da espécie Ficus religiosa L. (Urostigma religiosa Gasparr).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é nativa da Índia e introduzida no Brasil como planta ornamental e de sombreamento. Ela é grande, atingindo proporções colossais e ocupando imensas áreas quando velhas. Suas raízes adventícias vigorosas e numerosas ao se fixarem no solo formam galerias vegetais, onde os hindus guardavam seus ídolos. O invólucro floral trilobado apresenta receptáculos ou figos, axilares, seis, globoso-achatados, 10-13 mm de diâmetro, na maturação são de coloração roxa-preta.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of India and introduced to Brazil as ornamental and shady. It is tall, reaching high proportions and occupying large spaces when they are old. Its adventitious vigorous and numerous roots form green galleries as they fix themselves to the soil, where Hindi people buried their idols. The trilobate flower involucre has receptacles or figs, which are axillar, six, flat and globous, 10-13 mm of diameter when mature they have purplish black color.
