Nota 2: Eles são escandentes, de folha simples e opostas, serreadas, flores regulares, hermafroditas ou dioicas, com 2-15 sépalas, e 0-10 pétalas, numerosos estames, reunidas em inflorescências congestas ou fascículos axilares. O fruto é baga, carnosa ou seca, cápsula drupa, encerrando muitas sementes.
