Planta da família Pedaliaceae, do gênero Sesamum, das espécies Sesamum indicum L. e Sesamum orientale L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária da Ásia tropical, e introduzida no Centro-Sul do Brasil, especialmente no estado de São Paulo. É herbácea ou semi-arbustiva, perene, ereta, alcança 0,5-2,0 m de altura, com ciclo variável de três a seis meses. Tem grande valor econômico, pois a semente contém cerca de 50% de óleo e 26% de proteína, podendo o seu óleo ser usado na agroindústria alimentícia, farmacêutica e química.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of tropical Asia and introduced in the central southern region of Brazil, especially in the state of São Paulo. It is herbaceous or semi-shrub, perennial, reaching 0.5-2.0 m of height of a three to six-month cropping cycle. It has a great economic value, due to its seeds, which contain approximately 50% of oil and 26% of protein. Its oil can used in food, pharmaceutical and chemical agroindustry.
