Arbusto da família Flacourtiaceae, da espécie Dovyalis caffra (Hook & Harv.) Warb. (Aberia caffra Hook & Harv.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é nativo da África do Sul e Sri Lanka e introduzida no Brasil há mais de 50 anos. É perene, de vigoroso desenvolvimento, armado de longos e terríveis espinhos, usado para cercas vivas. Seu fruto é baga globular, com 2,5-5 cm de diâmetro, amarela, polpa aromática, rica em pectina, com numerosas sementes, dando excelentes geleias.

Note 1 and 2: It is from South Africa and Sri Lanka and introduced in Brazil more than 50 years ago. It is perennial, of vigorous development, armed with long and terrible thorns, very used for diameter, yellow, with an aromatic rich-pectin pulp with numerous seeds. It is used to produce high quality jellies.
