TAIUIÁ-DO-MATO
Liana da família Cucurbitaceae, da espécie Trianosperma tayuya Mart. (Bryonia tayuya Vell.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é sul-americana, nativa do Brasil. Ocorre da Bahia ao Rio Grande do Sul. Ela é herbácea, trepadeira, de raiz tuberosa, caule sulcado, ramoso e liso; as folhas são longo pecioladas, e as flores em panícula, amarelas e pequenas. O fruto é uma cápsula pequena, ovoide, preta, contendo três sementes grandes, possivelmente comestíveis. A raiz, esponjosa e amarelada, chega a ter 2 m de comprimento, é purgativa, emética, antissifilítica e muito reputada como depurativo eficaz.

Note 1and 2: It is from South America, native of Brazil. It can be found from Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul states. It is herbaceous, climbing plant, tuberous root, grooved stalk, branched and smooth; long petiolate leaves; flowers in panicles, small and yellow. The fruit is a small capsule, ovoid, black, containing 3 big seeds, potentially edible. The root is yellowish and spongy, reaching 2 m of length, it is purgative, emetic, ant syphilitic and known for being an efficient depurative.
