Planta da família Linaceae, da espécie Linum usitatissimum L.
Nota 1 e 2: Hoje é limitado ao estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Suas folhas são flácidas e as flores são azuis e isoladas. Os frutos possuem sementes ricas em mucilagem e óleo secativo, conhecido como de linhaça, utilizado na fabricação de tintas e no tratamento da prisão de ventre. As fibras da casca são usadas na indústria de fios e tecidos. É também um diurético. O solo indicado é o argiloso, fértil e rico em matéria orgânica. Seu plantio é feito em março-abril.

Note 1 and 2: Today, it is limited to Rio Grande do Sul state. Its leaves are flaccid and the flowers are blue and isolated. The fruits have seeds which are rich in mucilage and protective oil, know as linseed, used to make paints and to treat constipation. The fibers of the shell are used in yarn and fabric industry. It is also a diuretic. The best ground is the loamy, fertile and rich in organic matter. It is planted between March and April.
