Hortaliça da família Labiatae, da espécie Marrubium vulgare.
Nota 1 e 2: É de clima temperado, cultivada a pleno sol, no período que vai de setembro a março. É perene e, de acordo com a fertilidade do solo, pode atingir de 30 a 90 cm de altura. Colher os ramos novos e partes apicais, que são cristalizados em açúcar para utilização em bolos e doces. O chá de suas folhas é um ótimo calmante para tosse. Excelente também como ornamental e para a cobertura da terra. Propaga-se por sementes e pode-se empregar também a divisão de touceiras.
