Hortaliça da ordem Turbiflore, da família Solonaceae, do gênero Lycopersicon, das espécies: 1) Eulycopersicon: L. pimpinelifolium, L. esculentum, L. esculentum f. piriforme, L. esculentum f. cerasiforme, e 2) Eriopersicon: L. hirsitum f. typicum, L. hirsitum f. glabratum, L. peruvianum, L. cheesimani, L. glandulosum, L. pessisi, L. chilense.
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é originário do território sul-americano, desde o Norte do Chile, o Peru e até o Sul do Equador, no litoral Pacífico, até a altitude de 2.000 m dos Andes indo até as Ilhas de Galápagos. Ele é cultivado em quase todos os estados brasileiros, em maior e menor escala. Ele é anual, herbáceo, caule redondo, piloso, e macio, quando jovem, tornando-se anguloso e fibroso com o tempo. Seu fruto é carnoso, com 2, 3 ou mais lóculos, podendo ser amarelos, vermelhos, verdes, brancos, escuros, cor-de-rosa, alaranjados, dependendo da variedade.

Note 1 and 2: It is from the South America, from the north of Chile, Peru until the south of Ecuador, in the Pacific Ocean, until the altitude of 2,000 m of the Andes to the Islands of Galapagos. It is grown in all Brazilian states in big or small scales. It is annual, herbaceous, round stem, hairy and soft, when young becoming angled and fibrous as time go by. Its fruits are fleshy, with 2, 3 or more lobes and they can yellow, red, green, white, dark color, pink, orange, depending on the variety.
