Árvore da família Fabaceae, da espécie Zollernia ilicifolia (Brogn.) Vogel (Coquebertia ilicifolia Brogn.; Zollernia holletiana Vog.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ocorre desde o centro-sul da Bahia até o Rio Grande do Sul. Constitui árvore elegante que atinge 20 m de altura e 80 cm de diâmetro, apresentando copa bem desenvolvida, folhas simples e coriáceas, providas de dentes que terminam em espinhos. As folhas são róseas e os frutos do tipo vagens pequenas comestíveis. Possui casca fina, pardo-acinzentada, lisa, uniforme, tanífera, e das raízes pode se obter tinta vermelha. A madeira, duríssima, pesa e compacta, é de cor amarelo avermelhada ou pardo-amarelo-clara com listras e manchas escuras, à semelhança de certos tipos de jacarandá-da-baía. Indicada para construção civil e naval, esteios, tacos de bilhar, cabos de faca, ferramentas, dormentes, etc.

Note 1 and 2: It occurs from the Central-South of Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul states. It represents an elegant tree that reaches up 20 m high and 80 cm of diameter, with a well-developed tree canopy, simple and coriaceous leaves with teeth that end in thorns. The leaves are rosy and the small pod-shaped fruits are eatable. It has a thin, brown-grayish, smooth, uniform,and tannin producer bark, and a red ink can be obtained from its roots. The wood, much hard, heavy, and compact, is yellow reddish or light brown yellow with dark stripes and stains, similar to certain kinds of Bahia rosewood (Dalbergia nigra). It is indicated to house building and ship construction, supports, billiard cues, handle knife, tools, railway ties, etc.
