Arbusto da família da Caprifoliacea, da espécie Sambucus australis Cham. & Schlecht.
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é nativo do Sul e Nordeste do Brasil, estendendo-se para a Argentina e Chile. Ele é lenhoso, de 2-5 m de altura, as folhas têm 7-9 folíolos dentados, glabras, lanceoladas, as flores são brancas e aromáticas, os frutos são globosos pequenos, de 5-6 mm de diâmetro, negros ou violáceos, cuja polpa é utilizada na preparação de geleias, sorvetes, doces e vinho. As folhas têm propriedades laxativas e a casca, purgativa e vomitiva.

Note 1 and 2: It is native of the South and Northeast of Brazil, wide spreading to Argentina and Chile. It is woody, of 2-5 m of height, has glabrous lanceolate leaves of 7-9 follicles. Its flowers are white and aromatic. Its fruits are small black or purplish berries of 5- mm of diameter, whose pulp is used to make jellies, ice cream, sweets and wine. Its leaves have laxative properties while the bark has purgative and vomiting ones.
