Planta ornamental da família Pandanaceae, da espécie Pandanus utilis L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária da África e largamente introduzida no Brasil. Ela é lenhosa, que pode atingir 15-20 m de altura e caracteriza-se por flores dioicas, sendo as masculinas de odor suave e penetrante e as femininas, em forma de cone cilíndrico, com numerosos carpelos. Tem belas folhas compridas, paralelinérveas, espinhosas nas margens, imbricadas de 3 fileiras em espirais, aculeadas e discolores, que podem ser utilizadas na confecção de tecidos e esteiras. Os frutos são drupas fibrosas tidas como emenagogos. Suas sementes nem sempre são comestíveis.
An ornamental plant of the family Pandanaceae, of the species Pandanus utilis L.
Note 1 and 2: It is from Africa and largely introduced in Brazil. It is woody and can reach 15-20 m of height. It is characterized by its dioic flowers, being the males of a soft and penetrating scent and the female ones are of a cylindrical cone shape, with numerous carpels. Its beautiful long leaves have parallel nerves, thorny at the edges with 3 spiral rows, which are aculeate and discolor. They can be used to textile material and mat manufacturing. Its fruits are fibered drupes known as emenagogue. Its seeds are not always edible.
