PÃO-DE-PÁSSAROS
Erva da família Crassulacea, da espécie Sedum acre L.
Nota 1 e 2: Encontrada em muros, telhados, terrenos pedregosos na Ásia oriental (Sibéria) e África setentrional. Introduzida na Europa, veio a ser cultivada no Brasil. Trata-se de uma erva que atinge apenas 4 a 5 cm de altura, com folhas densas, carnosas, que retêm água na sua estrutura, de maneira quase misteriosa. Quando seca, usa-se na cura da epilepsia e, ainda, no uso externo como pomada resolutiva e rubefaciente; e, quando ainda verde, é cáustica e tóxica.
An herb of the family Crassulacea, of the species Sedum acre L.
Note 1 and 2: It is found in walls, roofs, and stony grounds in Asia (Siberia) and Northern Africa. Introduced in Europe, and brought to Brazil. It refers to an herb that reaches up just 4-5 cm high, with thick and fleshy leaves, that retains water in its structure, in an almost mysterious way. When dry, it is used in the cure of epilepsy and, besides, in the external use as remedial ointment and rubefacient; and, when it is still green, it is caustic and toxic.
