Árvore da família Malpighiaceae, da espécie Byrsonima coriacea Kunth (B. berteroana Juss., B. coriacea DC., B. hostmannii Benth., B. spicata Rich., Malpighia altissima Jacq., M.coriacea Swartz., M. guadalupensis Spreng, M. reticulata Spreng, M. spicata Cav., Banisteria laurifolia Sieb.).
Nota 1 e 2: É habitante dos cerrados e savanas da América Central, das Antilhas e da América do Sul, da Amazônia a São Paulo. Ela tem porte muito variável, de 5 a 30 m de altura, de tronco e ramos retos, de folhas opostas, simples, inteiras e lanceoladas. As inflorescências em cachos ou pseudocachos terminais, de 15-60 folhas hermafroditas, alaranjadas ou amareladas, com cinco pétalas e dez estames férteis. Seu fruto é baga globosa, amarela, com 10-15 mm de diâmetro, com caroço ósseo, envolto em polpa mole, de sabor adstringente, mas comestível, posto que pouco gabado.

Note 1 and 2: It inhabits the Brazilian cerrados and the savannas of Central America, of the Antilles and South America, from Amazon region to São Paulo State. It has variable height of 5-30 m, with straight stem and branches. It has opposite, simple, complete and lanceolate leaves. Its inflorescences are in terminal bunches or and pseudo-bunches, of de 15-60 hermaphrodite, orange or yellowish leaves, with five petals and ten fertile stamens. It has a rounded berry fruit, yellow, with 10-15 mm of diameter, with an osseous stone fruit, wrapped in a mushy pulp, with an astringent favor, but edible considering that it is little known.
