ZINGIBERÁCEAS
Família de plantas Zingiberaceae, de 47 gêneros e 1000 espécies como Alpinia purpurata (Vieill.). K. Schum. (alpínia); Costus erythrophyllus Loes. (cóstus-sanguíneo); Curcuma alismatifolia Gagnep. (açafrão-da-cochinchina); Hedychium coronarium J. König (lágrima-de-moça) e Zingiber officinale Roscoe (gengibre).
Nota 1 e 2: Elas são nativas das regiões meridionais e sudeste da Ásia. São monocotiledôneas perenes, rizomatosas, herbáceas, de caules curtos, folhas com bainhas, pecioladas ou não, lígula no ápice do pecíolo, limbo linear, lanceolado ou oblongo e normalmente acuminado; flores perfeitas, raramente díclinas ou unissexuais, cálice gamossépalo e corola gamopétala, heteroclamídeas, o androceu com um só estame fértil e, por algumas vezes, estaminódios presentes e o gineceu de ovário ínfero, unilocular, mas também bilocular ou trilocular com muitos óvulos. Geralmente o fruto tem uma cápsula loculicida de deiscência tardia ou um fruto carnoso e indeiscente.

(oxblood ginger or blood red spiral ginger); Curcuma alismatifolia Gagnep. (curcuma or siam tulip); Hedychium coronarium J. König (white garland-lily or white ginger lily) and Zingiber officinale Roscoe (ginger).
Note 1 and 2:They are native to South and Southeast of Asia. They are perennial monocots, rhizomatous, herbaceous, short stem, sheath leaves (could be petiolate or not), ligule at the top of the petiole, linear leaf blade, lanceolate or oval and usually acuminated; perfect flowers, rarely diclino or unisexual, gamosepalous calyx and gamopetal corolla, heterochlamydeous, one-fertile-stamen androecium and sometimes, present staminodiums and the gynoecium of infero unilocular ovary, but also bilocular or trilocular with many eggs. Usually the fruit has a loculicidal capsule of late dehiscence or a fleshy and indehiscent fruit.
