Nota 1 e 2: De origem européia, com bulbos sólidos e uma rede de raízes adventícias brancas, folhas radiais e escapo floral encimado por flores cor-de-rosa. O açafrão é extraído dos estigmas, cujo princípio ativo é a safranina, corante vermelho usado na microtécnica e em confeitaria. Também tem emprego na medicina popular, como estimulante carminativo, antiespasmódico, sedativo, emenagogo, calmante de dores e cólicas e ainda contra histeria, gastralgia, dentição de crianças, coqueluche.

Note 1 and 2: It is from Europe. it has solid bulbs and a net of white adventitious roots. The leaves are radial and the floral escape is composed of pink flowers. The saffron is extracted from the stigmas whose active principle is the safrarin, a red dye used in the microtechnics and in bakery. It is also used in popular medicine as carminative stimulant, antispasmodic, sedative, emmenagogue, pain and cramp relief, hysteria, gastralgia, child teething and whooping cough.
