Arbusto da família Malpighiaceae, da espécie Byrsonima coriacea Kunth (B. berteroana Juss., B. coriácea DC., B. hostmannii Benth., B. spicata Rich., Malpighia altíssima Jacq., M. coriacea Swartz, M.guadalupensis Spreng, M. reticulata Spreng, M. spicata Cav., Banisteria laurifolia Sieb.).
Nota 1 e 2: É encontrado nos cerrados e savanas da América Central, das Antilhas e da América do Sul, da Amazônia a São Paulo; Tem porte variável, de 5 a 30 metros de altura, de tronco e ramos direitos; Folhas opostas e simples; Fruto baga globosa, amarela, com 10 – 15 mm de diâmetro, com caroço ósseo, envolto em polpa mole, de sabor adstringente, mas comestível.

Note 1 and 2: It is found in the savannas of Central America, Antilles and South America, from Amazonia to São Paulo; It has a variable height ranging from 5 to 30 meters, with right trunk and branches; Its leaves are opposite and simple; Its berry fruit is yellow, globe-shaped and has 10- 15 mm of diameter, with an osseous lump which is wrapped in a soft pulp, of an astringent but edible flavor.
