Árvore da família Lecythidaceae, da espécie Lecythis usitata Miers var. paraenses (Ducke) Knuth (L. ollaria Spruce; L. paraensis Ducke; L. zabucayo H.B.K).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é frequente na Amazonia, particularmente nos estados do Pará e Amazonas, habitando quase sempre várzeas e ocasionalmente matas de terra firme (nas quais é frequentemente cultivada). Ela é frondosa, de mediana a grande, de copa ramosa e acolhedora. Tronco com casca fina, parda, persistente, quase lisa, íntegra e riscada longitudinalmente por fissuras muito mais retilíneas que sinuosas. Folhas alternas, oblongas, de base estreita ou arredondada, glabras, membranáceas, de apíce acuminado e pecíolo curto. A inflorescência é racemosa pauciflora (com poucas flores); estas são roxo-pálidas, odoríferas e, na velhice, se tornam esbranquiçadas. Fruto pixídio campanulado, 25 cm x 22 cm para menor, pericarpo lenhoso, grosso (2 cm), com rebordo robusto localizado acima do meio; dotado de opérculo na parte superior, contendo muitas sementes relativamente grandes, oleaginosas, saborosas e com valor comercial.

Note 1 and 2: It is frequent in Amazonia, particularly in the states of Pará and Amazonas, often dwelling at floodpains and occasionally mainland forests (in which it is frequently cultivated). It is leafy, with a medianum-great height, with a branchy and cozy canopy. The trunk has a thin, brown, persistent and whole bark, which is longitudinally scratched by cracks that are much more rectilinear than sinuous. The leaves are alternate, oblong, with a narrow or rounded basis, glabrous, membranaceous, with an acuminate apex and a short petiole. The inflorescence is racemose and contains few flowers, which are pale-purple, fragrant and, when older, become whitish. The fruit is a campanulate pyxis, 25 x 22 cm (no more than that) with a woody and thick pericarp (2 cm), with a robust collar situated over the middle, and an operculum in the superior part; it contains many big, oleaginous and tasty seeds, which have commercial value.
