Leguminosa da família Leguminosae, da espécie Vigna sinensis (L.) Savi (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.).
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária da África Ocidental e Central, mas há muito tempo introduzida nas regiões de clima temperado do Velho e Novo Mundo. Ela é anual, rústica, vigorosa, herbácea, geralmente de hábito trepador, raízes desenvolvidas e profundas. Suas sementes são utilizadas na alimentação humana e também é empregada como forrageira e adubo verde.

Note 1 and 2: It is from Western and Central Africa, but long ago introduced in temperate climate regions of the Old and New World. It is annual, rustic, vigorous, herbaceous, generally of a climbing behavior, with well developed and deep roots. Its seeds are used in the human diet and the plant is also used as forage and as green manure.
