Nome vulgar do arbusto do gênero Hibiscus, da família Malvaceae, das espécies H. sinensis Mill, H. rosa-sinensis L ., H. schizopetalus Hook.f., H. syriacus L.
Nota 2: É cultivado a pleno sol, isolado ou em conjuntos e, também, em cercas vivas. Lenhoso, grande, ereto, ramificado e perene; suas folhas são verdes, bem escuras, alternas, simples, estipuladas, palminérveas, lobadas e com nervura central aparente; flores solitárias, grandes, coloridas, simples ou dobradas, que se abrem durante quase todo o ano, de cinco sépalas unidas e cinco pétalas livres; os filetes dos estames são concrescidos formando um tubo, o andróforo, com muitas anteras; pelo seu interior passa o estilete que no ápice livre comporta os estigmas. Podem-se multiplicar por sementes, estacas ou alporques.

Its leaves are dark green, alternate, simple, stipulate, palmate, lobed, with a visible central vein; single-flowered, big, colorful, simple or folded, opens for almost the entire year, five united sepals or five free petals; the stamen fillets are concrescent, forming a tube, the androphor, which has many anthers; in its interior goes the stylet, that once in apex gathers stigmas. It multiplies by seeds, stakes or layering.
