HORTELÃ
Nome popular de plantas da família Labiatae, do gênero Mentha, das espécies: Mentha piperita, M. spicata, M. arvensis e M. rotundifolia. As duas espécies mais estudadas são a Mentha piperita L. e a Mentha arvensis L.
Nota 1 e 2: Elas crescem em vários tipos de solos e climas das regiões subtropical e temperada do Brasil. Caracterizam-se por exalarem forte aroma, muito apreciado, e assim importantes pelo destacado emprego na odorização de licores, bombons, gomas de mascar, dentifrícios, balas, além de apresentarem propriedades medicinais.
