Árvore da família Lythraceae, da espécie Lagerstroemia indica L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é originária da China, e introduzida no Brasil nos tempos coloniais, adaptando-se muito bem como ornamental por florescer duas ou três vezes por ano. Ela é de porte pequeno, podendo chegar até 7,0 m de altura, 0,17 m de diâmetro, casca lisa acinzentada e caule bem ramificado. As folhas são sésseis ou curtopecioladas, opostas, de forma oblongo-elípticas e glabras. As flores pediceladas, partidas, pétalas frisadas, recurvadas, pregueadas, róseas, lilases ou brancas, 36-42 estames, arrumadas em panículas terminais e compactas. Os frutos são do tipo cápsula, 6-locular, elipsoide e coriácea.

Note 1 and 2: It is from China and introduced in Brazil during the colonial times, adapting itself quite well as ornamental for flowering twice or three times a year. It is of short height, reaching until 7 m, with 0.17 m of diameter, flat and gray bark and a very branchy stem. Its leaves are sessile or short petiolate, opposite, oblong elliptical shape and glabrous. Its flowers are pedicelated, parted, with recurved wrinkled petals, which can be pink, lilac or white color. They have 36-42 stems arranged in compact and terminal panicles. Its fruits are capsule shaped, 6-locular, ellipsoid and coriaceous.
