Planta arbustiva da família Araceae, espécie Montrichardia arborescens Schott (Arum arborescens L., Philodendron arboreum Kunth., Montrichardia aculeata Schott, Montrichardia fendeleri Schott).
Nota 1 e 2: De origem brasileira das terras palaustres da foz do Amazonas , onde forma extensos maciços, os aningais. O fruto é alimento para animais silvestres e isca para pescaria, e suas sementes, cozidas ou assadas, são comestíveis e lembram as da fruta-pão.
