Arbusto da família Malvaceae, do gênero Hibiscus, da espécie H. cannabinus L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é nativo da região sul da Ásia e tem pequena importância no Brasil. É anual, às vezes perene, de caule reto, atingindo de 2 a 4 m de altura. O corte acontece depois de 3 ou 4 meses, na fase de pleno florescimento, oferecendo material de alta qualidade e em maior quantidade. Os caules podem ser secos por 2 ou 3 dias e macerados em submersão em água e desfibrados ou por desfibradoras, ainda verdes.

Note 1 and 2: It is from the southern region of Asia and has little importance in Brazil. It is annual, sometimes perennial, of straight stem reaching 2-4 m of height. Its cutting happens after 3 to 4 months when it reaches its full flowering, offering material of high quality and quantity. The stems can be shredded by machines when they are still green or dried in 2 or 3 days, macerated in water submersion and afterwards shredded.
