Nota 1 e 2: Embora de origem africana, acha-se em qualquer brejo no Brasil. A parte mole do pseudocaule pode ser usada como alimento, à semelhança de palmito. As folhas servem para empalhamento de cadeira. De modo geral, é muito menos trabalhoso preparar feixe de fibras de taboa do que de bananeira, pois sua seiva mancha as roupas indelevelmente.

Note 1 and 2: Although it is African, it can be found on any swamp areas of Brazil. The soft part of the pseudo stem is edible, similar to hearts of palm. Leaves are usually used to stuff chairs. In general, it is easier to prepare cattail fiber beams when compared to the banana ones because its sap can dye clothes indelibly.
