Planta têxtil da família Typhaceae, da espécie Typha domingensis Kunt.
Nota 1 e 2: Espalhada pelas margens dos rios e lagos, bem como nos terrenos brejosos do continente americano, desde o Sul dos EUA (Texas e Louisiana) até a Patagônia, e também nas Antilhas, desde as Bahamas até Trinidad. Ela é lacustre com cerca de 17 variedades nas regiões temperadas e tropicais; de crescimento rápido e fácil propagação. Herbáceas, palustres, altas, com rizomas rasteiros e folhas dispostas em duas séries coriáceas, eretas, sem nervura central, com 2 m ou mais de comprimento e 1,5 a 2,5 cm de largura. A inflorescência situa-se mais ou menos na altura das folhas, na forma de um longo pedúnculo provido de espiga terminal, onde ficam as folhas que se tornam pardo-avermelhadas com a idade. As informações sobre o valor alimentício da taboa restringem-se quase que somente aos rizomas, grandes e carnosos, ricos em fécula e isentos de substâncias nocivas, de sabor agradável e, portanto, comestíveis. Recurso fácil para suplementação volumosa para os animais.

Note 1 and 2: It is spread throughout riversides and lakes, as well as for marshy grounds of America, from the South of the USA (Texas and Louisiana) to Patagonia, and also the Antilles, from Bahamas to Trinidad. It is a coastal plant with approximately 17 varieties on temperate and tropical zones; grows fast and propagates quickly. Herbaceous, palustrine, tall, with creeping rhizomes and leaves disposed in two coriaceous segments, erect, without central vein, lengths 2 m and 1.5 to 2.5 cm of width. The inflorescence is located around the same height of the leaves, in the shape of a long peduncle provided with a terminal cob, where the leaves that turn to reddish-brown as they age are. The information concerning the nutritional value of cattail is almost all restricted to rhizomes, big and meaty, rich in starch and free of harmful substances, its flavor is pleasant and therefore, edible. It is a practical source for animal voluminous supplementation.
