Árvore da família Leguminosae, da espécie Enterolobium contortisiliquum (Vell.) Morong.
Nota 1 e 2: Originária da América do Sul, que habita a bacia amazônica e, mais frequentemente, as matas fluviais, desde o Ceará até o Rio Grande do Sul, alcançando o Paraguai, o Uruguai e a Argentina. Ela tem crescimento rápido, pode alcançar até 35 m de altura, quando na Amazônia, sendo que nas áreas de distribuição atinge somente de 6 a 8 m. Seu tronco cilíndrico e reto tem casca acinzentada, fina e lisa. De copa ampla, folhas grandes, formadas por pequenos folíolos, que caem durante o período mais seco do ano. Suas inflorescências são axilares, compostas por pequenas flores alvas ou verde-claras, pubescentes com numerosos estames. Os frutos são compostos por uma vagem circular, fortemente recurvada, lenhosa, negra quando madura, com até 7 cm de diâmetro. Sua madeira é assaz durável, com cerne em vários tons de castanho. Multiplica-se por sementes.

Note 1 and 2: It is from South America, habituating the Amazon Basin and more often, fluvial woodlands, from Ceará to Rio Grande do Sul states, reaching Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. It has a fast growth, may reach 35 m tall in the Amazonia, but in other places around 6 to 8 m tall. Its trunk is cylindrical and straight, has a greyish bark, thin of even surface. Broad treetop, big leaves, shaped by small leaflets that falls during the driest period of the year. It has axillary inflorescences, composed by small white or light green flowers, which are pubescent with many stamens. The fruits are composed of a circular pod, curved, woody, dark when ripen, measuring about 7 cm of diameter. The wood is highly durable and its heart has many shades of brown. Its multiplication is by seeds.
