Arbusto lenhoso da família Malvaceae, da espécie Malvaviscus arboreus Cav.
Nota 1 e 2: É procedente do México e norte da América do Sul. Possui 3-4 m de altura, é ramificado, muito ornamental. Folhas ovalado-lanceoladas, denteadas e verde-escuras, flores solitárias, vermelhas, longas por permanecerem semifechadas, formadas no decorrer de quase o ano todo. Ocorre a variedade de flores cor-de-rosa. É frequentemente cultivado em renque para formar cercas-vivas, que são podadas periodicamente. Apesar de serem fechadas, as flores são muito visitadas por beija-flores. Multiplica-se facilmente por estacas.

Note 1 and 2: It is from Mexico and North of South America. It has 3-4 m high; it is branched and very ornamental. Ovalate, lanceolate, dentate and dark green leaves. Solitary, red flowers, long as they stay semi-closed, grown in the course of most of the year. A variety of pink flowers also occurs. It is often cultivated inrow to form living fences that are pruned periodically. Despite being closed, the flowers are very visited by hummingbirds. It reproduces easily by stakes.
