MANGABEIRA-BRAVA
Arbusto da família Celastraceae, da espécie Plenckia populnea Reiss.
Nota 1 e 2: Ele é frequente nos campos e várzeas marginais ao Araguaia e seus afluentes, a partir do rio das Mortes. Sua área de distribuição, entretanto, é muito mais vasta, pois inclui a Amazônia e, certamente, Mato Grosso, Goiás e Minas. Possui ramos cilíndricos, subnodosos; folhas caducas na estação seca, alternas, longo-pecioladas, ovadas, acuminadas, verde-esbranquiçadas. As flores surgem no verão, pequenas, verdeamareladas, dispostas em inflorescências racemosa, axilar ou subterminal. Fruto sâmara uni alada, de pericarpo túmido. Fruto não reconhecido como comestível.

Note 1 and 2: A small shrub frequent in the fields and peripheral wetlands to Araguaia River and its tributaries, from Rio das Mortes (“River of the Death”). Its area of distribution, however, is very wide, because it includes Amazonia, and, certainly, Mato Grosso, Goiás e Minas Gerais states. It has cylindrical branches, with sub nods, deciduous leaves in the dry season, alternate, long petiolate, oval, acuminate, whitish green. The flowers grow in the summer, small, yellowish green, disposed in racemose, axillary or sub terminal inflorescences. It is a samara fruit, one-seeded, winged achene, of swollen pericarp. It is not known as an edible one.
