MARACUJÁ-MAÇÃ
Planta da família Passifloraceae, da espécie Passiflora maliformis L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ainda não é comercial no Brasil. A área de distribuição abrange desde a América Central até o norte da América do Sul, incluindo a Amazônia brasileira. Possui três brácteas bastante desenvolvidas que protegem os botões florais e, posteriormente, os frutos sendo distinguidos facilmente das demais espécies por esta característica. Ela não tem pelos, ou discretamente pilosa, de caules cilíndricos. Suas folhas são ovaladas, com bordos lisos. Apresenta flores grandes, perfumadas, com as suas séries externas de filamentos brancos, listrados de violeta. O fruto é amarelo-esverdeado, bastante lignificado, globoso e liso, comestível, com 3-5 cm de diâmetro. A polpa amarela, extremamente doce e perfumada, atrai numerosos insetos. Possui a casca extremamente dura para proteger-se deles, sendo partido frequentemente com o auxílio de martelo.

Note 1 and 2: It has not been commercialized in Brazil yet. Its area of distribution encompasses from Central America to North of South America, including Brazilian Amazonia. It has three well developed bracts that protect the flower buds and, later, the fruits being distinguished easily from other species due to this characteristic. It is a hairless plant, or modestly hairy, of cylindrical stems. Its leaves are ovate, with smooth edges. It has big, fragrant flowers, with external sequences of white filaments, purple striped ones. The fruit is greenish yellow, much lignified, rounded, and smooth, eatable, with 3-5 cm of diameter. The yellow pulp, highly sweet and fragrant, attracts numerous insects. It has a highly hard bark to protect from these insects, being broken often with a hammer.
