MAXIMILIANA
Gênero de palmeira da família Palmae, de quatro espécies brasileiras mais importantes: 1) Maximiliana attaleoides Barb. Rodr., vulgarmente denominada de curuá-iuquira, do Pará; 2) M. longirostrata Barb. Rodr., da Amazônia; 3) M. Martiana Karsten (M. regia Mart.), do Pará e Maranhão (Anajá); 4) M. macrohyne Burret.
Nota 1 e 2: É do centro-americano e sul-americano e apresenta grande semelhança com Attalea, Scheelea e Orbignya, diferenciando as flores. As folhas, não obstante atingirem até 5 m de comprimento, são bem menores do que as de Scheelea. Produzem frutos pequenos comparativamente aos de suas congêneres, somente aproveitados localmente, sem interesse comercial de relevo.
A genus of a palm tree of the family Palmae, being the four most important Brazilian species: 1) Maximiliana attaleoides Barb. Rodr., from Pará state; 2) M. longirostrata Barb. Rodr., from Amazonia region; 3) M. Martiana Karsten (M. regia Mart.), from Pará and Maranhão states; and 4) M. macrohyne Burret.
Note 1 and 2: It is from Central and South American, and presents a big similarity with Attalea, Scheelea and Orbignya, being differentiated by the flowers. The leaves, despite reaching up to 5 m long, are much smaller than the ones of Scheelea. They produce small fruits comparing with the ones of their similar species, only being consumed in local area, without significant commercial value.
