MELANCIA-DO-CAMPO
Planta da família Cucurbitaceae, da espécie Melancium campestre Naud.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é incluída entre as plantas indígenas de São Paulo. É herbácea, de caule delgado, prostrado e viloso, que emite raízes dos nós. Tem raízes grossas; folhas pequenas, curtopecioladas ou subsésseis, ovado-triangulares, emarginadas na base, crenadas, 3-5-lobadas, com ambas as faces pubescentes. 5-7 nervuras, palmadas. O fruto é verde, maculado de branco, com aspecto carnudo, comestível, mas de sabor muito sem graça, que amadurece no começo do ano.

Note 1 and 2: It is included among the indigenous plants of São Paulo state. It is herbaceous, of slender, prostrate, and villous stalk that emits roots from knots. It has thick roots; small leaves, short petiolate or subsessile, triangular ovate ones, with crenate margins on base, 3-5-lobated, with pubescent and palmate sides, 5-7 ribs. The fruit is green, with white spots, with fleshy appearance, eatable, but tasteless, ripening in the beginning of the year.
