Planta da família Bruxaceae, da espécie Simmondsia californica Nutt. (S. chinensis Schneid, S. pabulosa Kellog, Brochia dichtoma Mauri, Bruxus californica Link., Bruxus chinensis Link.)
Nota 1 e 2: Originária do Arizona, da Baixa Califórnia, do deserto da Califórnia e do ocidente do México. O fruto é utilizado para alimentação do gado após a extração do óleo. Constitui matéria-prima básica para a indústria química, automobilística, têxtil e de cosméticos. Na agricultura serve de excipiente para os pesticidas e hormônios vegetais.
