Planta da família Leguminosae, do gênero Lathyrus, com mais de 200 espécies, destacando-se a espécie Lathyrus sativus L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela é conhecida na Europa, Ásia, África do Norte e muito utilizada no sul do Brasil. Ela é anual, desenvolvendo-se bem em climas amenos e tem sido cultivada para aproveitamento das vagens novas como alimento humano ou animal. Recomenda-se a sua utilização como melhadora do solo, sendo cortada e incorporada no início do florescimento, em terrenos que tenham sofrido adubação intensa para culturas anteriores ou feno.

Note 1 and 2: It is known in Europe, Asia, North Africa and in the south of Brazil. It is annual, developing quite well in mild climates. It has been cropped to its pods, which can be consumed by humans and animals as a food source. It is highly recommended to soil improvement, being cut and used in the star of flowering period in lands, which have been suffering from intense fertilization in past crops. It can also be used for haying.
