Nome vulgar de plantas de família das Simaroubaceae, das espécies Quassia amara e Picrasma excelsa.
Nota 2: Delas extrai-se a quassina, um produto usado na indústria farmacêutica. Todas as partes do vegetal, folhas, frutos, flores e mesmo a casca e o lenho moídos têm efeito terapêutico, pois baixam a febre. Curam dores de estômago, ajudam a controlar o vômito e outros distúrbios gástricos, bem como são usados no tratamento de cálculos biliares. O chá é preparado 30 gramas para 1,5 litros de água; numa diluição maior, atua como diurético e fortalece o sistema renal.
