COLOCÁSIA
Nome comum a diversas plantas herbáceas, tropicais da família Araceae, e afins de Alocasia and Caladium, do gênero Colocasia. As espécies mais importantes são as alimentares: 1) Colocasia esculenta Schott (Caladium esculentum Vent.) = inhame, taro e 2) Colocasia antiquorum Schott (Caladium esculentum Vent.) = taioba, taiova.
Nota 1 e 2: É originária do Oceania. Seu rizoma é tuberoso ou caulescente, contendo suco ardente e tóxico, que é em grande parte neutralizado pela secagem.

Note 1 and 2: It is from Oceania. Its rhizome is tuberous or caulescent with toxic and burning juice, which can be neutralized by the drying process.
