Hortaliça da família Cruciferaceae (Brassicaceae), da espécie Brassica oleraceae, da variedade botrytis. Os cultivares dividem-se em dois grupos: 1) de inverno: Campinas-IAC, Bola de Neve, Teresópolis Precoce e Teresópolis Gigante; 2) de verão: Piracicaba Precoce, Santa Elisa-IAC, Miyai, Jaraguá, Shirayuki I e II, Bola de Neve e Híbrido Miyai.
Nota 2: Ela é bienal e exige um período frio para produzir sementes. Na fase vegetativa forma grande cabeça (inflorescência que não frutifica) de coloração creme ou branca, maciça, tenra de sabor muito apreciado. A colheita ocorre no período de 80 a 125 dias, conforme o cultivar, à medida que as cabeças atingem o máximo desenvolvimento. É preferível antecipar o corte, pois o atraso significa a perda da capacidade e, por isso, do valor comercial.

Note 2: It is biennial; therefore, it requires a cold period for seedling. In the vegetation state, it forms a big head (inflorescence that dos not bear a fruit) of cream or white color, thick, tender with a highly appreciated flavor. Its harvest occurs between 80 to 125 days depending on the cultivar as the heads reach their maximum development. It is preferable to anticipate the cut, because the delay may affect a capacity and commercial value loss.
