CRAVEIRO
Planta ornamental da família Caryophyllaceae, da espécie Dianthus caryophyllus L. (D.coronarius Lam.).
Nota 2: Ela é perene, desprovida de pelos, cespitosa, de caules prostrados e estéreis no primeiro ano, eretos e férteis a partir do segundo, atingindo 80 cm de altura, destaca-se pelas flores solitárias vermelhas, às vezes brancas ou variegadas, de 5 pétalas em forma de cunha com dentes desiguais. Os diversos tipos, hoje em dia cultivados, são produto de métodos de melhoramento avançado e formam um grupo de plantas de grande importância para os horticultores. Das pétalas é extraído um óleo essencial, rico em eugenol, que tem propriedades ligeiramente excitantes, porém desaparece com a secagem.
