Nome comum dado a primeira cana de açúcar da espécie Saccharum officinarum L.
Nota 1 e 2: Ela originou-se da ilha da Madeira, Portugal e foi introduzida no Brasil há 270 anos aproximadamente. Apresenta colmos de coloração amarelada, delgados, nós curtos, altura de 2,0 a 2,5 m, perfilhação abundante. As folhas são abertas, de baixa porcentagem de fibras, de maturação tardia e alto teor de açúcar.
A common name given to the first sugar cane of the species Saccharum officinarum L.
Note 1 and 2: It is from the Madeira Island in Portugal and it was introduced to Brazil approximately 270 years ago. It has thin yellow stalks, short nodes, 2.0 to 2.5 m of height and abundant affiliation. The leaves are open, of low fiber percentage, of late maturation and high sugar content.
